MERRY HEY DAY

Merry Hey Day is a 4 piece alternative punk band based in Seoul, South Korea. With roots throughout different regions of South Korea, the quartet brings an upbeat, dancable joy to the rebellious Hongdae punk rock scene that has inspired each of them.

Formed in 2019 by JJ (lead vocals and guitar) and HanGyeol (guitar and background vocals), Merry Hey Day quickly garnered attention before the breakout of the Covid-19 Pandemic and after adding Whipping (bass and background vocals) in the autumn of 2019. Their EP “Last Day on Earth” was released on November 27th, 2020, and following many live performances, being featured in the OST for the web drama 'Jumida Had', and placing in the top 5 for 2021 Sangsang Madang Band Discovery Contest, the addition of SeungBae (drums) completed the MHD line-up in mid-2023.

Merry Hey Day is back in the studio recording a new EP, yet to be named, set for release in late 2023.

'Merry Hey Day' consists of vocalist JJ, guitarist Jeong Hangyeol, bass Kim Whiping, and drummer Lee Seungbae.

KASSA

Kassa was born in the U.K. in Oxford. There he would grow up until his family moved to Chicago while he was in high school. His family would move (several more times) but he would settle in Los Angeles to pursue entertainment and music. He realized his passion for music from a young age, being a part of school choirs and vocal groups, until he attended UC Irvine. There, he realized that he didn’t want to be a doctor, like his parents had wanted, but instead felt that entertainment was his final destination.

He would then go back to school to the Los Angeles Film School, where he studied music production and Entertainment Business. Through these programs and classes, he would discover like-minded individuals who applauded his natural talent for songwriting and singing.

He then formed a group, called PHVNTVCY, which would release 3 singles before separating, but this would be the beginning of Kassa’s musical ventures. He then decided to go it alone, working on other music and writing for other artists such as Saint Winters and Soju (RuPaul’s Drag Race). He wrote so many songs, but never took the opportunity to make music for himself. He met a girl name Nikki and his life changed forever. Nikki Black is another amazing singer/songwriter who Kassa would meet through a failed studio writing session, but they would become great friends and she introduced him to her friend and producer, Bolkano. Bolkano is an amazing musician through and through. He has a whimsical style and personality, coupled with an awesome musical knowledge and production ability. He and Kassa worked closely, creating the tracks around Kassa’s vocal recordings. The synergy is undeniable, and the resulting music speaks for itself.

Kassa has always been a fan of pop music, but works in the KPOP field, so has allowed a little KPOP to influence his musical style. From the spacey, minor chords in the pre chorus to his second song “Lightning”, to the fullness of his debut track, “Can You Feel It?”, Kassa’s love for KPOP is evident. Kassa wants his music to be relatable, personal, but also fun. His tracks thus far demonstrate his fun-loving nature and his music video personified that. Working currently with FITC Entertainment, Kassa has put out a video for his debut single and is working with FITC Entertainment on the next segments of his musical journey. Stay tuned, there’s much to come!
